Sinor LaVallee 2012 Chardonnay San Luis Obispo County
- SINOR LAVALLEE 2012 CHARDONNAY SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY:
This is the first chardonnay from this pinot noir focused winery, and it’s impressively layered in flavors from start to finish. Tangy flavors of Pippin apple and sweet pear meld harmoniously with mineral notes and subtle French oak spices in this beautifully balanced wine. No newcomer to making outstanding chards, winemaker Mike Sinor has been at since the late ’90s while he was at Byron in Santa Maria and Domaine Alfred in Edna Valley (now Chamisal Vineyard). Grown in three vineyards, Spanish Springs in Pismo Beach, MacGregor, and Effort in Edna Valley, they range in proximity to the Pacific Ocean by 2.5 to 4.5 miles. These cool climate vineyards grow amazing wine grapes. It’s only $25 at Stax in Morro Bay.
Campo Viejo Cava Brut Rosé
- CAMPO VIEJO CAVA BRUT ROSÉ :
The Spanish word cava means sparkling wine made in the traditional Champagne method. Most Spanish cavas are produced in the Catalonia area where the word refers to the cellar. The pretty pink color of the wine is appealing alone. This lighter dry wine tastes of raspberries and strawberries. It’s simple but refreshing, and a good choice for serving as an aperitif before a dinner party. It’s usually priced $12.99 at California Fresh in Pismo, but it’s frequently on sale at $9.99.
