A SLO teen is lucky to be alive, and to have all his limbs, after being hit by a train on the Johnson Avenue trestle on April 29.

The conductor of a freight train leaving the SLO terminal sounded his horn when he spotted two young men on the trestle. An unidentified man successfully jumped from the crossing. However, when Louis Cooper, 16, attempted to jump down onto the edge of the trestle, he fell back onto the tracks, directly in the train’s path. Cooper was rescued from underneath a freight car two or three back from the engine. He suffered head and back injuries, but is expected to recover.

Both marijuana and alcohol were found in Cooper’s system. Police and railroad personnel are investigating.
