Get ready classical music lovers, there’s going to be a new person waving around that baton in San Luis Obispo.
After considering 134 applicants, the SLO Symphony narrowed it down to five potential candidates who could fill the vacant conductor’s podium. Each of the hopefuls will lead the orchestra in guest engagements during its 2016-2017 Classics in the Cohan season.
And the finalists are … (drum roll please) Andrew Sewell, music director of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra; Jose-Luis Novo, music director of the Binghamton Symphony and Annapolis Symphony; Nan Washburn, music director of the Michigan Philharmonic; David Handel, music director of the National Symphony Orchestra Bolivia; and Rei Hotoda, associate conductor of the Utah Symphony Orchestra.
The last concert to be guest conducted by a finalist will be on May 6, 2017. Sometime soon, SLO will crown its new conductor. Visit slosymphony.org for more information.
