Smartasses, pottymouths, and physical therapists

In other words, the Best of the San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition is back at the Clark Center.

The San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition is where legends like Robin Williams and Ellen DeGeneres got some of their first big breaks, and this local “best of” showcase, back by popular demand, packs all the best stuff into one night of laughs and absurdity on Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m.

Comics include Tony Baker, the competition’s 2012 champion, as well as Laura Hayden and Danny Bevins.

“On stage, Tony talks about his life, particularly his childhood, his marriage, his children, and his many phobias,” press materials read. “He also brings witty and pretty absurd observational takes on animals, bugs, and movies. Tony Baker’s delivery technique has been described as a comedy version of smooth jazz.”

Whatever that means!

Dr. Laura Hayden has a respectable job as a licensed physical therapist, but she doesn’t take herself too seriously, if her website is any indication:  “When Laura Hayden is not killing patients—with laughter, she is killing it on stage as a stand-up comedian and inspirational speaker.”

Yep, she took it there. Hayden’s career as a stand-up comedian kicked off when she was nominated by her class at Mount Saint Mary’s College to give a commencement speech, which she credits as her first stand-up performance.

Then there’s that smartass, Danny Bevins, who won the San Francisco competition in 2000.

“His mouth has gotten him arrested, fined, and fired from every job he’s ever had, but for the last 10 years it’s propelled him to tour the world and perform on some of the most prestigious stages in comedy,” his bio reads. “He’s loud, audacious, opinionated, cocky, animated, charming, irreverent, sarcastic, facetious, ridiculous and dangerous.”

No Oxford commas for this ne’er-do-well!
