I just read Linda Camplese’s letter (“Vote for policies,” New Times, Sept. 25, 2008), and she hit the nail on the head. I also keep wondering why the voters keep voting against their best interests. We have seen the rich get richer and the poor suffer more. Maybe they truly believe they will someday be millionaires, even though they can’t pay for college or afford to buy a house. They came alive over “freedom fries” and knocking all things foreign. Maybe more awareness is needed that “sound bytes” alone will not give you the knowledge necessary to exercise your responsibility as a voter.
