Pretty picnic: Grab some fine cheeses and a big crusty baguette from Fromagerie Sophie or a mighty meatball sub from Lincoln Deli and set off for a picnic under the stars with The Central Coast Shakespeare Festival. Not only is the location, Filipponi Ranch, beautiful, but you will also be privy to delicious Filipponi Ranch wine while you watch! Upcoming dates are July 14 and July 21 (centralcoastshakespeare.org) ... Day trip to Solvang, anyone? On Aug. 3, Santa Ynez Valley-based non-profit Veggie Rescue will pair with Chef Pink and Courtney Rae DeLongpré of Solvang haunt Bacon & Brine (baconandbrine.com) to host an open air pop-up charity dinner that will help the nonprofit glean local produce from farms, farmers markets, home gardens, and orchards and deliver to charitable organizations and school lunch programs in Santa Barbara County.

Health inside, outside

The winery is using sustainable techniques that conserve energy and water while reducing waste, and that is an awesome trend I hope will spread across the region ... Have you tried GingerBear yet? The weather is hot and the healthy, icy brews are fresh for summer (flavors include cherry, blueberry, turmeric-ginger, mint, banana, and chai kombucha).
