Summer lovin'

The "good fat:" If you don't dig avocados and margaritas, you may not be human. I cannot wait to slurp up some icy tequila-spiked cocktails and dip some chips into creamy avocado spreads at this year's upcoming Avocado Margarita Street Fest in Morro Bay. Plan on getting a designated driver and mark Sept. 10 on your calendar (get your tickets at avomargfest.com or call 772-4467)! ... How's this for a summer feast? True Myth has partnered up with Cayucos Abalone Company to create a seasonal gift pack bursting with seaside flavor. You'll get an 8-ounce package of authentic California Red Abalone from Cayucos Abalone Company, a classic grilling recipe, and a savory chardonnay smoked sea salt sourced from the Paso Robles-based Pasolivo Ranch. Of course, the pack also comes with a summer-approved bottle of True Myth 2014 Paragon Vineyard Chardonnay to wash it all down with (available through Oct. 1; purchase at nivenfamilywines.com).

OK. Is there an "official national day" for everything? I am starting to think so. Speaking of that notion: National Lasagna Day is coming up this July 29! Get out there and dig into a hearty mess of noodles, melty cheeses, veggies, meat, and Italian spices at Flour House, Gino's Pizza, Pizza Republic, Giuseppe's, or Cafe Roma, to name a few ... SLO Wine Country is looking for local nonprofits seeking funding to be the beneficiary of its annual Harvest on the Coast Auction kicking off this Nov. 5 (for details, go to slowine.com) ... SLO's own Sally Loo's, now serving beer and wine, is gearing up to take over dinner bites, too! Want to know more about what this creative cafe is cooking up? Follow on Instagram @sallyloos and be prepared to be bowled over by food that transcends simply a.m. munchies! Oh, and if you've had their gourmet breakfast noshes ... you know the new changes are going to be epic!

Wines, vines, and legacy: Three decades is a long time, but not when you're making awesome wine with your friends and family, right? Talley Vineyards knows this to be true. The Arroyo Grande-based winery recently celebrated a 30-year milestone of family farming and winemaking history. Still, not much has changed. Today, you can still find Talley's famous pinot noir at their AG tasting room or grab a CSA box of farm-fresh veggies from their bountiful farm (talleyvineyards.com) ... I almost spit out my coffee reading the latest issue of Sunset Magazine. Why? Paso Robles was just named Best Winery Town in the West! This is a huge honor for the region, which has exploded to about 300 wineries (many of which are still family-owned and friendly; not snooty) ... And more love for Paso: Congrats to LXV Winery for being nominated by USA Today as one of the Top Ten Reader's Choice Best Tasting Rooms (learn more at lxvwine.com).
