NEW TIMES: When was Pismo Bowl established?
SIMMONS: It was established in 1939 and has become a landmark for people who are familiar with Pismo Beach. Our family has done their best to keep a retro vibe and look to the bowling alley that’s classic even for the ever-changing times. We’re really proud of the look we gave our coffee shop bar.
NEW TIMES: How much does a night of bowling cost?
SIMMONS: One game is $3.25 per person, with shoe rentals at $2.50. We’re open every day at 10 a.m. (Wednesdays we open at noon) and we close at midnight every day of the week. On Monday nights we have our Monday Madness specials for $12, which includes all-you-can-eat pizza and bowling games, starting from 9 p.m. to midnight. Friday nights we have Cosmic Bowling available from 6 p.m. to midnight—we light up our eight bowling lanes with fluorescent lighting.
NEW TIMES: Do you offer league memberships, lessons or party packages?
SIMMONS: We have many different leagues ranging from children to seniors playing here throughout the week. Tara Sanchez is the bowling coach; she is UCSB certified and instructs at Cal Poly as well. Tara provides coaching for all levels of skill and age as well as teams and groups. We host birthday parties for children that include one and a half hours of bowling in two of our lanes, shoe rentals, and food.
