NEW TIMES How did the adult book club come together?
ROBITAILLE The book club has been a part of the Paso Robles community for over 10 years now. Karen Christiansen is the head of the Adult Services in the library, and this book club is her baby. Throughout the years, Karen and the library have introduced as well as discussed some of the new and popular titles in literature, both fiction and non-fiction.
NEW TIMES What are some of the titles you are reading and recommend to others?
ROBITAILLE We have a list of novels that the group chooses from a majority vote. We do our best to introduce titles that no one has read yet, and we choose usually three books to read within a three-month period. The list is provided under our adult programs in the book club listing. Currently we are reading One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus.
NEW TIMES Do you have a young adult’s book club or children’s book club?
ROBITAILLE We have programs for children that suit their age level and literature needs. We offer a children’s collection of media, such as magazines, books, audio, and video tapes that can be used for purposes of reference and research. We also provide book-sharing programs that encourage children to get together with our volunteers and share stories, poems, crafts, and music. Finally, we have a grandparents and books program that allows grandparents and seniors alike to read a variety of appropriate literature to children of all ages. For more information about any of our programs, please feel free to contact us at 237-3870 or visit our website at prcity.com/library.
