This elegant red Rhone, a Mourvedre blend with Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise, was grown on the winery’s estate certified organic vineyards. Delightfully smooth and seamless, it tastes of plums, black cherry, briary blackberries, and smoky meat, all weaved with an impressive thread of tangy red cherry, minerals, white pepper, spice, and earth. It ends on a long, lush note of blackberries, raspberry, and spice that entices you back for another sip. Wonderful on its own, Tablas recommends pairing it with duck, game, lamb, or beef stir-fry. I thought it a great choice with a grilled steak, too. It’s $48 retail for this special wine at Tablas Creek’s tasting room, and it’s available at DePalo & Sons and Tastes of the Valleys Pismo.
