Shame on the Pismo Beach and Grover Beach city councils for advising the Air Pollution Control Board not to take any action on the issue of the PM10 pollution of the air in Oceano and the Nipomo Mesa. They claim the Oceano Dunes State Vehicles Recreation Area (the source of the PM10) brings money in. So what? Pismo got rid of cars on its beach years ago but supports cars on our beach for its own profit. I call this deceitful, dishonest. Does the ODSVRA’s industry bring money to the community of Oceano? No. Instead, it destroys Oceano’s natural beauty and attraction; it stomps Oceano’s potential for growth as a safe beach town; it vandalizes Pier Avenue and vicinity; and it drives away non off-road-vehicles tourism.

 The Oceano community and the county are losing money big time. Only a few people make most of the money there: the magnates of the off-road vehicles industry (and of course, the state). Oceano Beach was one of the most spectacular shores in the Central Coast. But cars and off-roaders have transformed it into a horrific alien landscape of debris, fences, stakes, posts, trash containers, and portable and permanent bathrooms. Pier Avenue has been turned into a filthy ghetto alley where off-roaders stop on their way in to stock up on booze and on their way out to dump their trash. Walking on Pier Avenue and on Oceano Beach has become dreadful and dangerous. Shut the off-roading down!
