The wonderful thing about America is that we all have the right to freely voice our opinion. Jerry Johns singled out the CHP in the letter, “Watch out for hot-shoe CHP prowlers” (July 9). May I offer this reply? I just glanced at my insurance renewal bill. My discount for being a “California Good Driver” was $303.35. For a full year’s coverage, that amounts to $606.70. By obeying the laws, I have avoided ticketing for countless years. The California Highway Patrol is filled with dedicated and highly-trained professionals who put our safety first and foremost. Their job is difficult at best. The situations they endure on a daily basis are strenuous. I suggest Johns observe the posted speed limits and laws of the road and adjust the accelerator accordingly. With the money ultimately saved on insurance and tickets, consider doing something to benefit the CHP officers. Where would this state be without them?
