I send my sincere thanks to all the remarkable grassroots community leaders and public officials who coalesced to express support for my work on the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission, amid calls for my removal (“Remove Sarah Christie from the planning commission,” July 23). The 35 names (“Sarah Christie guides county planning wisely,” July 30) meant more to me than just an expression of moral support. These are people from all corners of the county who have worked closely and productively with the planning commission over the years on issues ranging from affordable housing to public access to agricultural preservation to viewshed protection. Planning commissioners volunteer for this position for one reason and one reason only: We want to contribute to a better future for San Luis Obispo County. Validation from such respected members of this county is a reminder that we are truly all in this community on this planet together; we are all a part of the web of decision-making upon which the next generation will stand. Every single one has been an instrumental voice in the civil dialogue that can and usually does take place at the planning commission when we are not distracted by character assassination and political vendettas. Thank you for the vote of confidence.
