The Morro Bay Aquarium should be shut down

I went to the Morro Bay Aquarium for the first time on Saturday. I was horrified, to say the least. I study marine mammals, but anyone with a care for animals should immediately see the trauma and lack of care these animals are experiencing. It made me sick to my stomach to see the tiny, disgusting tanks all of these animals were housed in. The cleanliness of these tanks was far worse than anything I have ever seen. The animals all looked extremely sick, and the seals and sea lions were showing signs of psychological damage due to the inadequate pens they are forced to live in for 24 hours a day.

The people who own this do not seem to love animals; it seems they are just interested in the monetary gain. These animals are not being rehabilitated, which is a lie they are feeding their visitors. If they were really “rehabilitating” these animals, they wouldn’t be allowing people to feed them all day every day. The owners also do not even have the proper training or certification to be allowed to house these animals.

How is it that a facility with 22 violations of the Animal Care Act is even allowed to keep its doors open? This “aquarium” is a disgrace to the beautiful city of Morro Bay. I would like to formally protest this grotesque operation in the hope of getting it shut down as soon as possible.
