SLO City Planning Commission will continue discussions on a Target store proposed for Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo on July 22.
Formally called the Prefumo Creek Commons Project, the development would require annexing 31 acres of unincorporated land into the city as well as a general plan amendment to change the property’s zoning. The project as proposed would have five small buildings and one large building, which could be as big as 140,000 square feet. The total footprint proposed for all the buildings is 188,658. About 12 acres would be reserved for open space under the current plan.
While many locals look forward to the one-stop shopping hub and city officials covet the potential sales tax boost, many SLO residents showed up to voice concerns about the project, ranging from traffic to open-space guidelines, during a two-hour July 8 meeting. The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the city council.
