In a world where decisions are often made that are easy versus right, I was disappointed that the Arroyo Grande City Council seemed to favor the former option.
After listening to 11 years of expert testimony against the Tract 1998 project, it appeared that three members heard little, and merely wanted the project to be passed on to someone else’s hands. With new data being presented and several issues still unresolved, they seemed rushed to make a decision at 11:30 p.m.
Kudos to Mayor Ferrara, Councilman Fellows, and on an earlier decision, to Planning Commissioner Barneich, for having the courage to stand up for the protection of our environment, and for offering win-win solutions that were basically ignored by the other councilmembers.
As it now stands, we will all lose when an excess of 750 truckloads of fill dirt barrel down our streets, and get dumped into a bio-swale on this environmentally sensitive tract.
Will the unsuspecting future buyers recognize the treasure that has been destroyed?
