I want to extend a giant thank you to the young folks (ages 26 to 39) in our community who overwhelmingly supported and voted for Barack Obama. You see, his signature program, Obamacare, is going to be of great benefit to me.

I fall in the age category defined by Obamacare as the old and sickly. Fortunately, I’m not sick, but I do fall into that category. I’m older than 60 and understand that under Obamacare the “young and healthy” are going to be required to purchase health insurance and pay a bit more to subsidize health insurance for folks like me. So, again, thank you.

Yes, I know I’ve done well in life and feel blessed to own a nice, large home on a hill with a great view. And, yes, I do own three vehicles: two cars and a pickup, but only one could be considered a late-model, luxury vehicle. And, yes, I do struggle to figure out what I want for Christmas as, well, I have most everything I could ever want or need. And, yes, the stock market is doing well and my portfolio has rebounded. But let’s face it: I’m closing in on retirement and keeping my health insurance costs down will go a long way to a financially secure future.

Now I’ve heard rumors that many young people are considering avoiding their responsibility by choosing not to purchase health insurance, opting instead for the $95 fine. Let me just say, for the record, I don’t believe that will happen. Young people understand better than most that it’s up to them to change the world, and Obamacare is just one step toward achieving the goal of hope and change. So I’m sure when the numbers come in young people will overwhelmingly purchase health insurance and help me and others like me head into retirement with confidence and peace of mind.

I must admit I wasn’t a fan of Obamacare, as originally proposed, as I didn’t see how it would benefit me. But now, as I learn more about it, I’ve come to appreciate the law. My future and upcoming retirement looks great and I can’t help but thank Obamacare and the generosity of young folks for their help in keeping health care affordable for all. Thank you!
