Volunteers 2018

Hundreds of trained Red Cross volunteers traveled south to help victims of the Thomas Fire, the largest fire in California history, in December. They served thousands of meals, connected people with services, comforted folks through the loss of a home, and handed out blankets and toiletries at shelters. For this year’s Volunteers issue, New Times reached out to some of those who gave their time to help others in need through the Red Cross and spoke to them about what they do and why they do it. Also in Volunteers, check out the woman whose passion for theater turned into 25 years of giving to the Cambria theater arts scene; a website that can connect you with local volunteer opportunities; and some local nonprofits that can get you started down the road to helping others.
