Post Labor Day, New Times staffers have been reflecting on the eventful season we’ve enjoyed.
The biggest news was that we won a gaggle of awards in our circulation division. Flock of awards? Passel? Skulk? Murder? Shiver?
From the Association of Alternative News Weeklies came second place honors to Steve E. Miller for photography and honorable mention to Staff Writer Robert A. McDonald for investigative reporting for a story he wrote about gaps in monitoring registered sex offenders.
McDonald also took that story to second place for investigative reporting from the National Newspaper Association. First place went to News Editor Colin Rigley for his coverage of violence at Atascadero State Hospital. The NNA also awarded Arts Editor Anna Weltner second place for arts feature and honorable mention to Shredder, our lovable rapscallion of a pseudonymous columnist.
And, even though all the cool kids are doing it these days, we’ve still decided to up our presence in the social-mediasphere (or whatever they’re calling it) by increasing our output on Twitter (newtimesslo) and Facebook (search for SLO New Times). The Shredder also posts on Facebook, when he/she/it feels like it—most recently in February. Maybe if more people comment, Shredder will post more?
We can only hope.
