Two Cal Poly students walked away without a scratch after crash landing a single engine plane in a small field 12 miles east of Atascadero near La Panza Road on April 23.

SLO County Sheriff Sgt. Andy Rasmussen says, Jason Diestel, the 22-year-old pilot and his passenger Haley McCaffrey, 20, were watching a group of motorcyclists when they flew into a power cord above a knoll at around 1 p.m. “It was really pleasant to see an accident where no one was hurt, but it will be expensive, Rasmussen adds. “The right landing gear was totally torn off, the prop sheared, and the right wing buckled. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the accident.
