Welcome to the club: Parrish Family Vineyard in Paso Robles has announced that the 2016 vintage will be the first year that they craft their wines from estate-grown grapes. Culling grapes from its three terroir-diverse vineyards in the Creston, El Pomar, and Adelaida sub-AVAs, the winery is officially one of Paso Robles' true estate wineries (parrishfamilyvineyard.com) ... How deeply rooted is chardonnay in SLO Wine Country? The dry-farmed chardonnay vines at Wolff Vineyards have been producing wine for 40 years, with the current release being the limited-production estate 2014 Wolff Vineyards Chardonnay "Old Vine." The winery is also home to the region's ﬁrst petite sirah vines, which present a unique cool-climate expression of the variety (taste them all at the tasting room, 6238 Orcutt Road, San Luis Obispo) ... On Nov. 5, local wineries and chefs alike will converge at Avila Beach Resort for the Grand Tasting & Wine Auction as part of the larger Harvest on The Coast weekend celebration. Model train mayhem: On Sept. 17, starting at 10 a.m., Beda's Biergarten in SLO will be the location for an official Guinness World Records attempt that blends beer and trains (in a non-dangerous way). Cologne Germany native, Bernd Schumacher, who has been a collector for over 20 years, will attempt to break the prior world record of the world's largest model train collection. Come check out the cool choo-choos and grab a frosty German brew! ... At 10 a.m. this Sept. 11, football fans will probably be pretty stoked to get back to their favorite game. They may also be jazzed to know that Eureka Burger in downtown SLO will be serving up $5 bloody Marys and mimosas each Saturday and Sunday as well as serving up epic game bites like all-day breakfast burrito including steak, tri-peppers, potatoes, jack cheese, topped with ranchero sauce, sour cream, and an over easy egg ... Sending love to Italy: Flour House in SLO donated half of its Sept. 2 proceeds to the Italian Red Cross in response to the recent earthquake that rocked Amatrace, Italy, and claimed more than 250 lives (to find out how you can help the cause, visit the restaurant's Facebook page) ... As Poet Laureate of San Luis Obispo back in 2000, Glenna Luschei is always working on new creative projects. She now writes a blog that details her life-long romance with the Spanish language when she's not busy working as an avocado Rancher in Carpinteria. The author of more than 30 books of poetry will be reading from her work at CORE Tasting Room in Old Orcutt this Oct. 8. Stop by for art and wine combined! ...
